The French department offers a wide range of courses that combine the study of French and francophone culture, literature and linguistics—all taught from a Christian perspective.
Calvin's French major is a 31-credit hour program that will help you develop both language and cultural proficiency through courses and numerous cultural engagement opportunities. Use this major to prepare for further study in graduate school, as a subject matter concentration for the teacher education program or as a complement to other majors and minors at Calvin, such as engineering, business, history and philosophy.

This 31-credit major, combined with courses in the education department, can certify you to teach French in the elementary and secondary setting.
This 19-credit program includes language, grammar, literature and two elective courses. The study abroad semester in France fulfills many of the minor requirements.
