Some of the information needed to properly cite an encyclopedia entry may include:
- Author of the Entry (If There is One)
- Title of the Entry
- Name of the Encyclopedia
- Edition Number (If Any)
- Date of the Edition
- Other Publication Information
Volume and page numbers are not necessary because the entries in the source are arranged alphabetically and therefore are easy to locate.

As of the 7th edition of the MLA Handbook, including URLs is generally not recommended.
