Byker farewell

The spring semester of 2012 will mark the completion of Gaylen and Susan Byker's 17 years of service to Calvin. There are many ways for the community to express our thanks.

"A Byker Farewell: God's Grace and Gratitude"
This public program of appreciation and thanks will be held Wednesday, May 16, at 8 p.m. in the Covenant Fine Arts Center. Some participants include Randall Bytwerk, Gary Schmidt and Richard Mouw; a special choral and instrumental work commissioned by the Alumni Association, Parable, will be performed and feature the Calvin Alumni Choir. A reception will be held immediately following.

Farewell Reception
On the Bykers' last day on campus, Monday, June 25, all are invited to a farewell reception at 10:00 a.m. on the Commons Lawn.

Contact bykerfarewell@calvin.edu with any questions.

Spring Classic record turnout!

The 2012 edition of the Calvin Spring Classic 5k and Karen Muyskens Fun Run drew a record field of 1,317 participants. Gretchen Braymer (18:41) took the title as women's overall champion and Alex Wrobel (16:04) took the men's. These champions will be getting married this summer; both are Calvin cross country & track and field alumni.

The school challenge competition was won by Grand Rapids Christian (number of registrations), and the corporate challenge winner was Hoekstra Landscape Management (competitive finish scoring).

The Calvin Spring Classic is a TAC-certified run entirely on Calvin campus roads. The Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run is named after the late Dr. Karen Muyskens, a Calvin chemistry professor. See all results and photos online.

Happiness Day!

Are you happy? Calvin kinesiology students are looking for 100+ alumni to complete this survey. You'll see how your happiness compares to the U.S. average, and they'll compare overall results to Calvin student results. Please take a minute to support their research! The students have also created a Calvin College Happiness Day Facebook page.
