Calvin's optics program offers career-oriented, hands-on training for students in physics and engineering, as well as pre-service teachers preparing to teach science in high school.

Program requirements

  • Physics 132 or 133
  • Physics 235
  • Physics 246
  • Physics 345 or Engineering 302
  • Physics 346
  • Physics 349 or 379
  • At least 19 semester hours

Combinations with Engineering

If you would like to combine an optics minor with an engineering major, see information and sample schedules.

Overlap guidelines

If you would like to combine an optics minor with a physics major, you must follow guidelines in the college catalog about overlap between a major and minor. The in-depth physics major effectively combines a physics major with an optics minor by substituting upper-level physics courses for introductory ones.
