Actuarial Science is becoming increasingly popular among Calvin Students. While we don't have a major called that, we do offer courses that prepare students for a career in the actuarial sciences, and Calvin students often take and pass the first actuarial exam before graduating. (Congratulations to senior Erin Campbell, our most recent student to pass the exam.) Students interested in actuarial science often work as interns during the summer. For more information about actuarial science, visit our Actuarial Sciences @ Calvin webpage.
The annual Putnam Mathematics Exam is considered the most challenging and prestigious mathematics exam in North America. Each December Calvin students participate in the exam. In 2010, Ethan Van Andel score 46, placing him in the top 250 nationally. Our 2011 team is currently preparing for this year's competition.
