Calvin partners with the Veterans Administration or War Department to support those who have faithfully served our country.
You are able to use military education benefits to pay for tuition and, potentially, other college expenses. These benefits are based on your record of service or your parent's or spouse's record. Calvin charges a single tuition rate for undergraduate students regardless of residency.
Additionally, eligible applicants admitted to Calvin will be evaluated for any other non-military aid for which they meet the criteria. This would include merit or need-based aid as applicable, as well as other grants or awards available to incoming first year or transfer undergraduate students.
Commonly Used Programs
GI Bill
A large program with various levels of benefits for eligible veterans. As a potential beneficiary of veterans education benefits you should carefully evaluate the resources available to you, your spouse or dependent child.
Yellow Ribbon Program
Designed specifically for those who are fully eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, qualified individuals in the program will have 100% of their tuition and fees covered.

Army ROTC
Offered in conjunction with Western Michigan University, this program allows students to take classes at Calvin while simultaneously taking ROTC classes at WMU's Grand Rapids campus.
Military Tuition Assistance (TA)
A federal benefit program potentially paying up to 100% of college tuition for eligible active duty and reserve service members while they are still serving. Available to members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard, with each branch establishing its own specific rule and service commitments.
Apply for Benefits
If you are qualified to receive benefits for any VA programs, please take the following steps.
- Veterans should apply to the VA following the instructions listed in their Road Map for Success.
- Notify us of your intentions to claim VA assistance by submitting a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or other appropriate documentation to Amy Vander Slik, Calvin's VA Certifying Official, who will process your request.
- Active-duty service members or reservists must receive approval from an Educational Service Officer (ESO) or counselor within their branch of service prior to enrolling.
- Once you are enrolled (registered) for an academic term at Calvin, you must notify us of any changes to your course schedule. Modifications to your class schedule (i.e. dropping below full-time) could alter your eligibility for benefits.
