Dr. Wiebe Boer

Biography

Before serving as Calvin's 12th president, Wiebe Boer, PhD, spent two decades serving in the private and social sectors in four countries on two continents. His work focused on leveraging private capital to create social impact.

Boer earned a doctorate and two master’s degrees from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree from Calvin, all in history. He has served professionally in economic development, management consulting, philanthropy, and impact investing. Prior to his presidential appointment at Calvin University, Boer lived in Lagos, Nigeria, and served as CEO of All On, a renewable energy investment fund of Shell.

During his tenure at Calvin, Boer actively engaged alumni, churches, and prospective students around the world, participating in dozens of events across multiple countries. During this period, Calvin received applications from a record 90 countries. Boer also led the university in new partnerships, athletic expansion, and campus renovation.

Born and raised in Nigeria as the son of CRC missionaries, Boer holds citizenship in the Netherlands, Canada, and the United States. He is the father of four sons.
