Faculty Opening: American Politics

Calvin College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor of American politics beginning in fall 2013 (pending administrative approval). 

Qualifications

Potential for both excellent teaching and research at an undergraduate institution are essential.  Candidates must be capable of teaching courses in American national institutions, including the presidency and Congress, parties/elections, and the introductory course in American politics.  Candidates with an interest in leading the College’s semester-long Washington, D.C. Program on occasion are welcomed. A Ph.D. in political science is required at the time of appointment.  Usual teaching load is 3-3.

Applications will be reviewed beginning October 1, and thereafter until the position is filled.  A complete application must include:

  1. a letter of application that addresses teaching philosophy, how the applicant’s teaching will contribute to the college’s mission, teaching experience, and research interests;
  2. a curriculum vitae;
  3. evidence of teaching effectiveness;
  4. sample of scholarship;
  5. graduate transcripts; and
  6. three letters of recommendation.
