End of Term

Rhenish students were freed at 11h00 today to celebrate the end of the 2nd term of the school year. Thing is, nobody told us. We only heard last night at about 21h00 when Mark's friend's mom Karen happened to call to invite Mark to an end-of-term afternoon party. Sigh! And scramble to make a new plan for tomorrow.

Mark's party included lunch at Spur and a movie at the Eikestad Mall. They watched a Transformers movie. Under the new plan for today, I was responsible for meeting Mark at 11h00 to ensure that he changed clothes, had a snack, and was ready for the party. The plan was for me to leave quickly and get back to work. Didn't work out that way.

The boys took a LONG time to get ready, the mom who was supposed to transport the kids to Spur had a meeting to attend, so I had to bring the kids to Spur. Then, I got a call from Tracy wondering where I was. She needed to get to a keynote lecture at the Theological Institute. (I didn't know about this.....) So, Tracy had to walk into town for the lecture. And, I had to pick her up later.

Tracy brought Tosca to the vet at 08h00 this morning to be spayed. Tosca came home around 17h00. She's still rather groggy, but doing well. She walked to her doghouse and flopped down to rest. She'll need anti-seizure medication for 10 days while the pregnancy hormones remain in her system. We expect that it will take a few days for Tosca to be herself again.

The vet said she was pregnant with six puppies. We all feel a little sad about the way things have worked out: sad that Mark and Catherine won't be able to see the puppies grow up, sad that Tosca had to go through the operation, and sad that the homeowners can't breed Tosca as they desired. But, the vet was pretty clear that spaying was very much in Tosca's best interest.

I snapped a few pictures of her when she came home. See them below.
