Cricket and Vineyards

Today, Mark's cricket coach complimented him on his bowling, saying, "Let this be an example to you all. Mark's been here 3 days and he has mastered bowling!" Not bad for a baseball player who's learning cricket. He felt really good about himself.

On the same day, I purchased tickets for the upcoming One Day International with South Africa vs. Australia on Thursday 9 April 2009. The match will be held at Newlands Cricket Ground. We'll be on the lawn area (The Oaks Pavilion) on the northwest side of the ground. That means that the sun will be behind us for the entire match! (Remember that in the Southern Hemisphere, the sun travels from East to North to West throughout the day. And, we'll see all the partisans and the wild characters. It could be very exciting.

This promises to be just about as good as it gets for international cricket. South Africa and Australia are ranked #1 and #2 in world cricket at the moment. It should be a great series overall, and the ODI form of cricket which we'll see is quite exciting. The following ratings tables are from the International Cricket Council.

This morning, I had a meeting at the Stellenbosch University Sustainability Institute. I took a back road (Annandale Road) and along the way snapped this photo of the Soverby wine estate in the morning light. It is picturesque here in Stellenbosch.
