"Your faith will grow at Calvin," reflects Zachary. “The experience gave me the depth and breadth to discuss my faith in personal and professional settings. With faith integrated into every class, I was able to apply faith to various situations I encountered and still encounter in everyday situations with clients.”

How were faith, leadership, and ethics woven into your classes?

My faith was renewed through coursework, outstanding professors, and peers. I believe Calvin differentiates itself by having faith as the starting point for every class and professor, and it builds from there. In terms of leadership, I had so many opportunities to grow in this space, whether through a group project or Nexus Peer Financial Coaching. As Christians, we are sometimes put under a microscope on how we conduct ourselves with what say and what we do. Having integrity and being ethical are critical in my personal and professional life. Both were integrated into every class. There are still scripture verses that I carry with me today that were applied to cases we studied in class.

What Calvin Action Project did you work on and how did it prepare you to find a job?

My Calvin Action Project was crafting a financial plan for a real client. We got to work alongside financial planners in West Michigan. We were able to engage our clients and uncover opportunities and threats to their financial plans and goals. The best part about the project and the financial planning program is that we were able to integrate faith into our final project and then deliver it to our client. We were able to walk alongside a couple and explore what it means to be good stewards of the resources we are given, no matter the amount.

How did Calvin prepare you for your current career?

Calvin professors have worked in various industries and for world-renowned companies. Their expansive network and willingness to connect students with recruiters and managers help Calvin students land the jobs that they do post-grad. I had various interviews before landing where I did.
