Calvin academic scholarships range from $8,000 to $18,000 for incoming students starting in the fall of 2016. These scholarships are awarded automatically based on unweighted GPA and standardized test score.

Over 85% of incoming students receive one of the following scholarships. The general criteria and renewal information for each academic scholarships is outlined below.

Guidelines & eligibility (starting fall 2016)

National Merit Scholarship - $18,000

Calvin sponsored National Merit Scholarships are awarded to students selected as National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Corporation who select Calvin as their first choice college.

  • Amount: $18,000
  • Offered: 4 years
  • Renewal Criteria: Recipient is making satisfactory academic progress

Guidelines

  • National Merit Finalists are eligible to receive a National Merit Scholarships sponsored by one of the following organizations: National Merit Corporation, other participating corporations or Calvin College.
  • Finalists are only eligible for one National Merit Scholarship.
  • Students selected to receive a corporate sponsored award will receive Calvin’s $18,000 Trustee's Scholarship in addition to the corporate sponsored National Merit Scholarship (values generally $2,000-$3,000).
  • Finalists must select Calvin as their first choice college with National Merit Corporation to receive a Calvin sponsored National Merit Scholarship.
  • Finalists can change their first choice college with National Merit before May 1, 2016. Undecided finalists have until May 31, 2016 to select a first choice college.
  • Total Calvin sponsored award value: $72,000
  • National Merit Finalists that require a fifth year of study will be awarded a replacement Calvin scholarship based on their cumulative Calvin GPA.

Trustee's Scholarship - $18,000

Awarded to incoming students with the top academic profiles coming out of high school on a rolling basis. No additional application required.

  • Unweighted GPA of 3.90 and standardized test scores of 33 ACT or 1490 New/1440 Old SAT
  • Canadians: admissions average of 90%

Total award value: up to $90,000

President's Scholarship - $15,000

President's scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

  • Amount: $15,000
  • Offered: 5 years
  • Renewal GPA: 3.0

Selection criteria

  • Combined 3.90 unweighted GPA and a 31 ACT or 1420 New/1360 Old SAT
  • Canadians: admissions average of 87%

Total award value: up to $75,000

Provost's Scholarship - $12,000

Provost's scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

Selection criteria

  • Combined 3.80 unweighted GPA and a 28 ACT or 1310 New/1250 Old SAT
  • Canadians: admission average of 85%

Total award value: up to $60,000

Dean's Scholarship - $10,000

Dean's scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

  • Combined 3.40 unweighted GPA and a 24 ACT or 1160 New/1090 Old SAT
  • Canadians: admission average of 80%

Total award value: up to $50,000

Faculty's Scholarship - $8,000

Faculty's scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

Selection criteria

  • Combined 3.00 unweighted GPA and a 20 ACT or 1020 New/940 Old SAT
  • Canadians: admissions average of 75%
