Calvin offers academic scholarships that range from $2,000 to $15,000. They are awarded automatically (you don't need to apply separately for them) based on criteria such as unweighted GPA, test scores, character, honors, involvement, leadership and cross-cultural experiences.

Over 85% of incoming students receive one of the following scholarships. The general criteria and renewal information for each academic scholarships is outlined below.

Guidelines & eligibility (2015-2016)

National Merit Scholarship - $15,000

Calvin sponsored National Merit Scholarships are awarded to students selected as National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Corporation who select Calvin as their first choice college.

  • Renewal Criteria: Recipient is making satisfactory academic progress

Guidelines

  • National Merit Finalists are eligible to receive a National Merit Scholarships sponsored by one of the following organizations: National Merit Corporation, other participating corporations or Calvin College.
  • Finalists are only eligible for one National Merit Scholarship.
  • Students selected to receive a corporate sponsored award will receive Calvin’s $15,000 Trustee Scholarship in addition to the corporate sponsored National Merit Scholarship (values generally $2,000-$3,000).
  • Finalists must select Calvin as their first choice college with National Merit Corporation to receive a Calvin sponsored National Merit Scholarship.
  • Finalists can change their first choice college with National Merit before May 1, 2015. Undecided finalists have until May 31, 2015 to select a first choice college.
  • Total Calvin sponsored award value: $60,000
  • National Merit Finalists that require a fifth year of study will be awarded a replacement Calvin scholarship based on their cumulative Calvin GPA.

Trustee Scholarship - $15,000

Awarded to incoming students with the top academic profiles coming out of high school on a rolling basis. No additional application required.

Presidential Scholarship - $9,000–$13,000

Presidential scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

General selection criteria

  • Combined 3.85 unweighted GPA and a 29 ACT /1290 SAT or equivalent combination
  • Canadians: 85% marks

Total award value: up to $65,000

Dean's Scholarship - $7,000–$8,000

Dean's scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

Faculty Honors Scholarship - $5,000–$6,000

Faculty Honors scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

Knollcrest Scholarship - $2,000

Knollcrest scholarships are awarded to admitted students on a rolling basis and based on their admissions application materials. No additional application is required.

  • Combined 3.00 unweighted GPA and a 20 ACT/940 SAT or equivalent combination
  • 73% Canadian marks
