weusemath.org is a site dedicated to highlighting all the different ways people are using mathematics in the workplace.  Take a look, you might find a career path you would never have imagined. Or pick something really outrageous to tell your parents the next time they ask.

2013 receives special designations

2013 has been designated the International Year of Statistics and also the Special Year of the Mathematics of Planet Earth.  Many Statistical and Mathematical Organizations are joining in the celebrations, including Calvin College.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is an official partnering organization each of these celebratory years.  Stay tuned as 2013 approaches for more information about these celebrations, or click on the logos below to find out more now.

Calvin Students Prepare for Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science is becoming increasingly popular among Calvin Students.  While we don't have a major called that, we do offer courses that prepare students for a career in the actuarial sciences, and Calvin students often take and pass the first actuarial exam before graduating.  (Congratulations to senior Erin Campbell, our most recent student to pass the exam.)  Students interested in actuarial science often work as interns during the summer.  For more information about actuarial science, visit our Actuarial Sciences @ Calvin webpage.
