North Hall, home of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has a long tradition of a student/faculty picnic each fall. This year the picnic is scheduled for Sep 18. (We'll push it back one week if the weather doesn't cooperate.)
In addition to good company, there will be good food. Faculty will provide some homemade sides to accompany a grilled entre.
To help us in planning, please sign up here to let us know that you are attending.
Anna Plantinga, who graduated with Mathematics and Biology majors in 2013, has been awarded one of 11 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships in Statistics nationwide. She will be using this fellowship to continue her graduate studies in biostatistics at the University of Washington.

Actuarial Science is becoming increasingly popular among Calvin Students. While we don't have a major called that, we do offer courses that prepare students for a career in the actuarial sciences, and Calvin students often take and pass the first actuarial exam before graduating. (Congratulations to senior Erin Campbell, our most recent student to pass the exam.) Students interested in actuarial science often work as interns during the summer. For more information about actuarial science, visit our Actuarial Sciences @ Calvin webpage.
