Julie Vryhof

Through an autobiographical retelling of her educational and vocational experiences from her time at Calvin to the present, Julie’s presentation will focus on the role of Christian educators in urban special education. She will discuss the role that Calvin played in preparing her to be an effective educator in urban schools.  Specifically, she will share the lessons that she has learned while teaching and learning from students with disabilities who face educational inequity. Julie will offer suggestions on how to advocate for changes in systems that do not adequately support all students. Finally, she will raise the continued questions and tensions that exist within the field of special education.
