The communications arts and sciences department at Calvin offers both a major and a minor in theatre and has 25 to 30 student majors enrolled in the theatre program at any given time.
As a theater major, you may find yourself enrolled in a variety of courses, from theater history and criticism to acting and directing, design and production. This coursework, coupled with participation in the Calvin Theatre Company, prepares you for success at the next level, whether that is in an entry-level theatre position, a paid internship or formal graduate study.
Our graduates consistently work in all aspects of the theater, in both professional and educational settings, across the country.
Whether on the stage or behind the scenes, you will unite your heart and talents to tell powerful stories in imaginative ways. Calvin’s liberal arts approach to theatre leads not only to outstanding dramatic performances, but also well-equipped and skilled performance in the workplace.
A minor in theatre will bring a strong liberal arts vantage point to any major. The skills required to act, direct, produce and design in theatre easily translate into abilities to present, lead, promote and plan for success in the workplace.
