FYRES: The Student Experience

FYRES students have the opportunity to take a physical science course in which they learn by doing science.  From the beginning to the end of the semester (and beyond), students are immersed in research activities that focus on Lake Michigan coastal dunes.  Naturally, these activities include spending considerable time at the dunes!

What does it mean for students to be "immersed in dune research"?

How and what do FYRES students learn?

How does the FYRES experience engage students?

Does the FYRES student experience sound challenging?  It is!  But there are many resources in place to support the student activities, including student research mentors to provide guidance along the way.

Is the FYRES student experience rewarding?  Absolutely!

More information

The course has filled for Fall 2014, but student applications are being accepted for a waiting list in case some students change their minds during the next Passport advising session.

FYRES students successfully presented their research on December 5, 2013.

The Fall 2015 FYRES Student application will be available in March 2015.
