Overview
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is the quintessential musical satire on Roman Comedy. The story takes place two hundred years before Christ, and follows the antics of a slave who yearns to be free, a young man in search of his children kidnapped by pirates, and a Roman soldier who yearns to be wed to his virgin slave, all colliding with lusty intrigues of slaves and their masters.
Based on the plays of Plautus, Sondheim’s musical is playful, bawdy, and silly. Enjoy an evening of Roman stock characters, Sondheim music – and delicious performances by the CTC players.
