Calvin Portal

CIT will continue to update this web page with additional FAQs and training materials as we move forward developing the portal.




What is the portal?

The Calvin portal is now the comprehensive site for all of your Calvin online accounts and services! The portal launched in May, 2011 and its initial purpose was to replace the Resources tab that was in KnightVision in order for students, faculty, and staff to access online services such as time cards, pay advices, academic information (transcripts, academic evaluation reports, grades), and registering for classes. The portal also replaces some of the functions of the Community tab such as the e-Deals, ride boards, and lost/found discussion boards.

The portal offers exciting features that we have begun developing for future use, such as team sites and SharePoint integration.

The portal features a single sign-on connection to Moodle and other resources like time card entry, viewing your pay stub, and registering your vehicle. This means that once you are logged into the portal, you will not need to log in a second time to access these services. We will be implementing single sign-on for additional services as the summer progresses.

Moodle is now Calvin's learning management system (LMS). All online course materials are available exclusively in Moodle.

Who can use the portal?

The portal is available for the following groups:

  • Admitted students who have paid their deposit
  • Students
  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Board of Trustees

Not all staff have portal access by default. If you are having difficulty accessing your time card, please check with your supervisor. There is a Resource page available for those who do not have portal access.

How do I access the portal?

You can access the Calvin portal from any computer by going to the website portal.calvin.edu.

On the login page, you will be able to choose between a public or private computer. If you are not sure which to choose, use the public login, which is the default. This option will automatically log you out of the portal when you close the web browser. The private login allows your session to be stored so that you can browse away from the portal and close your browser but not have to re-authenticate. The security settings on some browsers may override this.

Your portal username is your Calvin username that you use for all other IT services (ex. jcc2).

Your portal passphrase is your Calvin passphrase. You can set or change your password here.
