Resources for Faculty & Staff

Calvin Information Technology provides computing, printing, telephone and
cable television services to the Calvin College community.

Services

Faculty and staff members are provided a wide range of opportunities to use technology for personal productivity as well as teaching and communication in their classrooms and offices.

Calvin provides free training and education for faculty and staff to help maintain updated technology skills.

The Teaching & Learning team work with Calvin's faculty incorporate new ways of using technology in teaching, research, and learning.

Facilities

There are a wide variety of computer facilities across campus including technology-equipped meeting rooms, Smart Classrooms, and the Digital Studio for proactively promoting the use of technology in education.

Hardware

Calvin supports both Windows and Mac computers for faculty and staff use. Office computers are refreshed on a 3-year rotation. CIT also provides and supports printers, copiers, and telephones.

Software

Calvin uses the Microsoft Office suite of software: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access. Adobe Dreamweaver and Fireworks are used for Web development. Some of these software packages are available for at-home use.

Faculty may request that academic software be installed on lab computers.

Accounts/Access

Faculty and staff members are given a Novell fileserver account for storing work-related files, a Moodle account for course management, and an Office 365 account for email, calendaring, tasks, and contacts. Access to other types of technology is available to meet a wide variety of needs.

Printing

Faculty and staff are automatically given access to their department printer. In addition, they can add access to other printers using iPrint Secure Printer Setup.

As a user of Calvin information technology resources, it is the responsibility of each student to be aware of both Calvin's policies on using Calvin's information technologies and federal, state, and local laws that affect his or her use of technology.
