Christianity in Africa "On the Road to Emmaus" -- Quest for a New Political Theology

Bishop D. Zac Niringiye (Church of the Province of Uganda) will take the 'road to Emmaus' as a parable of Christianity in Africa, grappling with the contradiction of increased growth in church membership alongside high rates of poverty and corruption in African countries.

Bishop D. Zac Niringiye (Church of the Province of Uganda) will take the 'road to Emmaus' as a parable of Christianity in Africa in his talk on "Christianity in Africa 'On the Road to Emmaus:' a Quest for a New Political Theology." He will explore the contradiction of increased growth in church membership alongside high rates of poverty and corruption in African countries, grappling with whether Christendom may be part of the problem. Niringiye will explore possible options for transforming Africa's journey from one of despair to hope, and searching for the possibility of rediscovering 'shalom' as the good news for Africa.

Bishop Niringiye leads a project on Religion, Rights and Peace at the Makerere University School of Law in Uganda, and is also working on a project at Uganda Christian University on Religion, Culture and Public Life. He is actively engaged in civic-political activism in Uganda.
