When launched in 1976, the Young Authors Program sought to bring together young writers and readers with professional authors and illustrators. We were delighted at the response of schools and students. Although we have since added the Middle School and High School Writers Workshops that meet on another day, the Young Authors Program continues to draw large numbers of first through sixth graders. In 2013, more than 1,300 students came together to celebrate literature. In addition to hearing from well-known artists, children share their own stories and attend a gathering that embraces different forms of writing, including storytelling, theater, and song. It is our hope that children who attend this program leave Calvin's campus inspired by the many ways writing can be interpreted and shared.
The next Young Authors Program is scheduled for April of 2015.
