The 24th Annual

Workshop in Geometric Topology

Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan
June 28-30, 2007

The Workshops

The Workshops in Geometric Topology are a series of informal research conferences that have been held each year since 1984. Most have been partially supported by grants from the National Science Foundation. Previous workshops have been sponsored by Oregon State University, the Colorado College, Brigham Young University, Calvin College, and the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

Each workshop features a series of three lectures by one principal speaker. This format allows the speaker to give a substantial introduction to an area of current research in geometric topology.

Participants are invited to contribute talks on their own research; time is allotted each day for 20 minute talks by participants. In addition, there is ample time set aside each day for informal interactions between participants.

After each workshop an informal Proceedings is published. All participants are invited to contribute.

Special Project

The organizers of the Workshops in Geometric Topology, with the support of the National Science Foundation, are currently preparing electronic versions of three famous unpublished manuscripts by Robert D. Edwards. These papers were written by Edwards in the 1970s and were circulated privately among experts, but were never officially published. The mathematics described in the three papers has been extremely influential, so the organizers of the workshops want to make certain that the papers continue to be generally available.
