| Professor of Mathematics at Calvin College |
This fall (2006) I am teaching two courses at Calvin College. You can find websites for these courses and others I have taught recently by going to
and clicking on the appropriate link.In recent years my primary teaching interest has been the undergraduate geometry course. I have written a textbook for a junior-level course in axiomatic geometry. The course is appropriate for all undergraduate mathematics majors, especially those who plan to become high school mathematics teachers. THE FOUNDATIONS OF GEOMETRY was recently published by Prentice Hall. You can find more information about it in the Prentice Hall catalog or on the book's own website.
Last academic year (2004-2005) I was on leave from my teaching position at Calvin College. I was a Visiting Professor of Mathematics at Michigan State University in East Lansing where I taught one course each semester. In the fall of 2004 I taught a section of Math 330, "Higher Geometry," and in the spring of 2005 I taught a section of Math 432, "Axiomatic Geometry."
I have also taught at the University of Utah (1971-1975), the University of Texas in Austin (1975-1977), the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (1984-1985), and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1994-1995). I have taught undergraduate mathematics courses at all levels, including the following courses: calculus, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, linear algebra, abstract algebra, real analysis, foundations of geometry, statistics, mathematics for liberal arts students, and topology.
