25 From the handout passed out in class today, read the section called “Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem” (pp. 157-164). (If you did not get a copy, loose copies are sitting in the “Graded HW” box outside my office.) This excerpt comes 157 pages into a book you have not read, so do not be alarmed when you come upon a phrase like “Gödel was able ... to write down a complicated polynomial equation ...” As you read, seek to answer questions like: What is logical positivism? What questions does it seek to answer or avoid? What is the agenda of logical positivism? Where does Kurt Gödel stand in relation to this philosophical movement? What is the “continuum hypothesis”? (Consult Section 3.4 of our text to see what it has to say about the continuum hypothesis.) How does it fit in with what we discussed today (Friday)?
