3a. How many hours of TV do you watch in a typical week? __5_ under 2 __7_ 2-4 __3_ 5-7 __0_ 8-10 __1_ more 3b. How many hours of TV do you watch in a typical week? __9_ 0-4 __3_ 5-10 __4_ 10-15 __0_ 15-20 __0_ more Comments: -------- The data from 3a can (almost) be converted to the 3b format. If we assume that the one student who checked more in version a actually watched 10-15 hours of TV (likely, given the other data), the result is the following:
0-4 5-10 10-15 15-20 more
version a 12 3 1 0 0
version b 9 3 4 0 0
Notice how the responses to version a tend to be somewhat lower. More dramatic results could perhaps be obtained using ranges that are a little lower. Very few of my students claim to wath more than 10 hours per week.
