Last Modified: Tue Sep 2 14:08:00 1997

Deadline

ASAP.

Assignment

Complete the following:
  1. Get a computer account by running new on csa.

When asked for a login name, type "new" and answer the questions.

  2. After you log on for the first time, type "help ethics" and read through the BU Computing Ethics policy.

  3. While logged in on csa, add your name to the course mailing list by typing "csmail -a cs113".

  4. Attend the tutorials.

If you are unfamiliar with UNIX or the UNIX editor EMACS, you should try to take advantage of the tutorials on these and other topics offered by IT here at BU. (Apparently this information is now kept on the web pages; the information available by typing "help tutorials" on csa seems to outdated.) There will be some opportunity to get some help on this in the section meetings as well, but your are expected to have already attended the tutorials. Do this as soon as possible.

  5. Run the program netscape (or some other browser) and visit the CS 113 course home page.

The course home page URL is:

    http://cs-www.bu.edu/courses/cs113/F97/Home.html

Information pertaining to the course, including programming assignments, course sylabus, lecture materials, review materials, course announcements, FAQs, etc. will be posted on this page. You should consult it regularly when you have questions. To run netscape from csa, type "netscape &". You might like to print out some of the information there--like the first assignment--for easy reference.

Note: Important course information will be communicated via e-mail and the course WWW Home page. You are responsible for all information distributed by these means.
