Beach Campsite
By early afternoon, we reached our campsite, Beach. Beach is on the South African side of the river, so the sun was beating in our faces as we looked toward the river. This was my favorite campsite, because there were so many interesting things to do, and because the setting beautiful. In the afternoon, the sand was incredibly hot, and we had to wear sandals walking on the sand. We took on the challenges to swim from the campsite to the Namibian side and back, to walk upstream to Dolly Parton and float downriver with lifejackets (a nappy run), and to hike the koppies across the river. Duncan and Jaco did sprinting races in the sand, and Duncan swam treadmill style in the river for a workout.
James and I set up camp in an area surrounded by rocks on the left side of this photo. We were "Team Rocky Beach" today.
