Sleeping Hero

She might not look like much of a hero in this photo, but Catherine saved our vacation from ending in utter frustration. Catherine fell asleep inside the car as we were driving from the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve to the West Coast Fossil Park. Very good thing, too. Because for the second time this year, we locked the keys inside our blue Toyota Corolla!

How did it happen ... AGAIN? Well, both Tracy and I were at fault. She went into the Fossil Park to determine if we could do anything before it closed. I stayed with sleeping Catherine in the car. It took Tracy and Mark quite a while, so I got out of the car to stretch my legs (but I left the keys in the ignition). When Tracy returned to the car, we stood outside to talk about the plan. (There really was no plan, because the Fossil Park was closing. We decided to grab a quick lunch at their cafe and head home to Stellenbosch.) Then we walked to the cafe. But, before walking away, Tracy locked all the doors of the car to keep Catherine safe in the shade while we ordered the food. Oooops. After a few panicked seconds (there was hardly anyone else around who could have helped us), I realized that Catherine was locked inside and that when she woke up, she could unlock the doors.

But, as you can see, she was very much asleep. So, we had to wake her up (from the outside).
