For the first time in several weeks, we were able to all go to church together this morning, which was nice.
After church, I happened to meet my Sustainability Institute colleague, Mark, in the Die Boord Superspar.
I bought a book called Best Walks in the Cape Peninsula with lots of hiking routes, including Smuts Track on Table Mountain. Mark and I would like to do that path later this year.
This afternoon, Catherine and I played hockey in the backyard. Despite (or perhaps because of) the clouds, the light was really diffuse and warm. So, I took a few photos of her. I love the warm colors in the shots below.
For any photographers reading along (I may be writing for Rachel only at this point), these photos were made with my favorite lens, the Nikkor 85 mm f/1.8 D. Most reviews say the bokeh isn't that good on this lens. But in my experience, it is just fine so long as you don't have super bright highlights in the background.
Our friend Amanda came over this afternoon for tea. The ostensible reason was to deliver an issue of the Journal of Theology for Southern Africa to Tracy, but that was a good excuse to catch up a bit.
One interesting bit of news from yesterday. About 55 whales beached themselves at Kommetjie yesterday. Most had to be shot. They were on Long Beach, the same place we walked a few weeks back.
