Joel H. Westra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Calvin College. His teaching and research interests include international organization, international security, international law, international relations theory, and American foreign policy. His research focuses primarily on questions pertaining to the use of force and the restraint of force within the international system. Before coming to Calvin, Dr. Westra was a Visiting Lecturer in the Committee on International Relations at The University of Chicago and a Fellow in the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University. He received his B.A. in political science from the Honors College at the University of Houston and his M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of Chicago.
