"As our ascended Lord, Jesus not only receives our worship but also perfects our prayers. In fact, Jesus 'always lives to intercede for us' (Heb. 7:25). Jesus (and not any other human worship leader) is the true lead worshiper. As we worship it is fitting to think of Jesus as active: praying for us, perfecting our prayers, giving us full access to God. This is pastorally significant because it welcomes us to offer worship even in weakness (Heb. 4:14-16).

2008 Worship Renewal Grants Announced

Worship Renewal Grants AnnouncedWhen church leaders talk about worship, they tend to talk about style, techniques, and equipment for worship services. But many congregations are dedicated to reflecting on the deeper meaning and purpose of worship and congregational life.

The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship encourages and supports these learning and reflecting processes through its Worship Renewal Grants Program. This year, the program’s ninth, CICW will award more than $700,000 to support a variety of worship renewal projects in 56 churches and organizations across North America. (View a list of grant recipients and summaries of their projects.)

Still a Child of God
“We've come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord, trusting in the Lord.”
“We've come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord, trusting in the Lord.”

It's heartbreaking to watch age or dementia claim a loved one's mind, body, and spirit. But it's a mistake to think that disease destroys a Christian's desire or ability to worship.

One pastor asked groups of nursing home residents to share their favorite Bible stories, hymns, and worship elements. They told her: "If I didn't have my faith, I don't know how I would live." "We've come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord, trusting in the Lord." "Faith carries me, sustains me. When I'm down, it picks me up."
