Vision/Mission Statement
The institutional mission statement expresses the stable and enduring identity of Wheaton College in terms of our reason for existence and our role in society and the church. All the purposes, goals, and activities of the College are guided by this mission.
Wheaton College exists to help build the church and improve society worldwide by promoting the development of whole and effective Christians through excellence in programs of Christian higher education.
This mission expresses our commitment to do all things: "For Christ and His Kingdom."
Chapel
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:35-11:15 am
The Chapel program seeks to nurture the spiritual life of students in the context of an academic environment. The Chapel programs reflect the interdenominational nature of the College and include guests known for their Christian leadership and prophetic word to the church and culture. Variety in worship forms, traditions, and music enriches the educational and experiential dimension of the chapel program. Student and faculty participation encourages the development of Christian faith through peer and mentor relationships. An educational component of chapel includes the consideration of theological, social, ethical, psychological, and political issues from a distinctively Christian and biblical perspective.
You may find links to the purpose of the chapel program, chapel schedule, attendance, information on upcoming chapels, and other opportunities.
Chapel attendance is required for all 2,300 undergraduate students. While attendance is mandatory, the spirit in chapel has been positive and open in recent years. Some members of the faculty and staff regularly attend chapel, and there may be off-campus guests in attendance although the number of visitors is usually small because of seating limitations. Chapel programming is oriented toward an audience of 18-22 year-old college students.
Sundays
Students are encouraged to participate in the worship, life, and ministry of a local church. The benefit is mutual as students gain from the fellowship of a church and churches appreciate the involvement of students. A directory of local churches is available in the Chaplain's Office or on-line.
Other Worship Opportunities
World Christian Fellowship is a student-led fellowship of believers at Wheaton College, whose intent is to fellowship with communities and people around the world, sharing our diverse experiences of our one Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, encouraging and assisting each other through prayer, worship, and acts of service, and seeking God's will for ourselves as it relates to the Great Commission and the current needs of the church.
WCF meets each Sunday night from 7:30-9:00 in Coray Gym in the Beamer Student Center.
At various times throughout the week, WCF also organizes prayer groups for different groups of people.
Highlights
There is a well developed site with archived messages from chapel speakers over the past decade. Chapel services are also broadcast on WETN.
Four students are selected to serve as Student Chaplains, who function as consultants and advisors to the Chaplain's Office while exercising their own gifts of ministry among their fellow students.
The Discipleship Small Group ministry also serves to encourage students 'to walk as Jesus walked' as they journey together during their years at Wheaton. As a student-led ministry coordinated by the Chaplain's Office, interested students are organized into small groups that provide a safe haven among peers, allowing for mutual support and encouragement, safety in struggle, and a place to become more like Christ.
Office of Christian Outreach (5 people on staff)
Coordinates many mission trips, prayer groups, ministries, and events.
