Mission Statement
The mission of Westmont College is to provide a high quality undergraduate liberal arts program in a residential campus community that assists college men and women toward a balance of rigorous intellectual competence, healthy personal development, and strong Christian commitments.
Chapel/Convocation
Chapel/Convocation is held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30-11:20 a.m.
Attendance is mandatory for all students.
The purpose of the chapel ministry at Westmont College is to nurture the pure love of God in the church as it is gathered in a Christian liberal arts community.
Believing that the worship of God is at the heart of all that we are and all that we do, the Campus Pastor's office leads Chapel/Convocation services to bring the Westmont community together to love and glorify God through prayer, music and teaching from the Word of God.
Sundays
Students are encouraged to go out and find a church on their own. Some churches send buses, shuttles and vans to the campus on Sunday morning.
Highlights
The Nancy Voskuyl Prayer Chapel is a place to spend time with God and to pray and meditate in a quiet spot away from noise and distractions.
Students in Westmont's art department have received a Worship Renewal grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in Grand Rapids, Mich., for a project titled "Stations of the Life of Christ." Students will create a series of 14 images interpreting moments in Christ's life that speak to Westmont's identity as a Christian liberal arts college.
Potter's Clay is a student-led mission trip/service project to Ensenada, Mexico. About 25 percent of Westmont students travel to Ensenada during their spring break, working with local pastors and staff on construction, health support, sports camps and vacation Bible school.
Emmaus Road is a student-led missions organization, out of the Center for Leadership and Learning. It is dedicated to serving the global Church 1) by sending 3-4 summer missions teams to serve with the worldwide Church each summer; and 2) by making the global Church a reality to Westmont students by inviting the global church (Christians of various nationalities, missionaries, and speakers on global issues) to come to the Westmont Campus numerous times throughout the school year. We want Westmont to both support and be supported by the entire body of Christ.
Chapel talks are archived as mp3 and live-streaming audio files.
They put out a Chapel CD featuring live worship from the Westmont community and sermon clips from Campus Pastor Ben Patterson and President Stan Gaede.
