Vision & Mission Statement
Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship and leadership.
Indiana Wesleyan University will prepare each student to become a world changer. We will accomplish this by drawing students into an integrated experience of intellectual challenge, spiritual growth, and leadership development. Thus we will:
. Call students to Christian character
. Expect academic excellence
. Equip students for success in their vocations
. Mentor students in leadership
. Prepare students for service
Outside the classroom IWU promotes Christ-likeness through:
. regular worship, chapels, and special speakers
. Summit Week, a week dedicated to spiritual renewal
. prayer sessions and Bible studies
. local, domestic and international mission trips
Chapel
The Indiana Wesleyan community is dedicated to the value of regular chapel services for all students. It is time for the campus community to meet together to worship God, to gain instruction in religious and cultural values, to discipline themselves in the means of spiritual growth, and to develop a sensitivity to world outreach.
Chapel is held in the Performing Arts/Chapel Auditorium (seats 1155). Weekly services begin at 10:00 and 11:05 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Each semester begins with Summit Week, a series of daily services devoted to spiritual renewal, during which many students commit or recommit their lives to Christ. Chapel services are conducted three times a week in the Phillippe Performing Arts Center and provide the foundation for the spiritual atmosphere on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus among students, faculty, and administrators. You'll find opportunities for organized prayer sessions, Bible studies, and theological discussions. A small Gothic-style prayer chapel designed for groups of 20 or fewer will provide you with an intimate sanctuary for prayer and reflection.
Chapel attendance is expected of all students, and required for all resident students. It is also required for most full-time commuting students. During Fall and Spring Summit, chapel attendance includes Tuesday at 11:05 a.m.
Guest speakers lead some chapels, and leaders are also drawn from IWU faculty and students.
Sundays
College Wesleyan Church is a Wesleyan congregation that cooperates closely with the university. Its property is adjacent to the IWU campus and was constructed in 1961. Many students like to attend College Wesleyan Church on Sunday mornings because of its closeness to their residences.
Other Worship Opportunities
At Indiana Wesleyan University, Christian service is an integral part of our student's college education. IWU's Ministry Teams provide an opportunity for IWU students to exalt Christ and point others to Him as Savior and Lord while maturing in their faith and stewardship.
There are many opportunities to gather with others for prayer: Intercessors - Praying for Chapel; Prayer Cells, Prayer Vigils, Prayer Walks.
Highlights
All traditional freshmen take a course that outlines the Christian faith from an evangelical perspective, and engages them in Christian service projects. There are carefully-coordinated Missions opportunities for spring break trips and summer projects, with a required class, Short Term Mission Orientation, for all who are accepted onto a World Impact team.
Spiritcare is a ministry of IWU whose purpose is to care for the spiritual needs of students by introducing them to the person and community of Jesus Christ. We hope to change the world by changing the heart.
Spiritcare features:
-Opportunities to converse with an ordained pastor
-Structured devotionals introducing students to the Christian faith
-Prayer support
Center for Life Calling & Leadership
As part of the Lilly Endowment's Programs for the Theological Exploration of Vocation, IWU has committed itself to a focused initiative to create a life-calling discovery process and culture on the IWU campus-a culture in which all students will experience a transformational environment that instills a strong conviction of life calling and the commitment to carry this out in leadership.
The site has many interesting details about the Williams Prayer Chapel-its history, design, sculptures and stained glass windows (created by Ardelia Williams, Associate Professor of Art at IWU from 1967-2002).
