Affiliation: Member of the CCCU Website: www.gordon.edu/faith/

From the College Mission Statement:

Gordon College strives to graduate men and women distinguished by intellectual maturity and Christian character, committed to a lifestyle of service, and prepared for leadership roles worldwide. .

Gordon College provides a well-rounded education in an environment where both mind and spirit can soar. Almost all Christian colleges put strong emphasis on behavioral expectations, chapel attendance, prayer before classes, etc. Gordon goes beyond this. Every professor integrates Christian thought and assumptions into classroom study. .

We embrace a process of education that links the intellectual and spiritual dimensions of life. Gordon is serious about its commitments. We expect our teachers to live in a vital relationship with Jesus Christ and model His life principles before their students.

Chapel

Chapels on Monday (praise band) & Wednesday

Convocation on Friday

Services are conducted in the A.J. Gordon Memorial Chapel at 10:25 a.m.

Schedules are distributed at the beginning of each term.

Students at the College are required to attend chapel services two times each week. These chapel services are traditional worship services that often feature sermons from Greg Carmer, our Dean of Chapel, faculty and pastors from many Boston area churches and ministries.

Each Friday our students also attend a convocation. These convocations bring us people of faith who are well known nationally in addition to newsmakers regionally and locally. The purpose is to enhance the academic program outside the classroom by stimulating and fostering the development of a Christian worldview. You may have already seen on this site the phrase, "Where faith connects with the world, there is Gordon College." As students hear these presenters during convocation it is our hope that they will be striving to connect their faith to the issue or issues being discussed.

Sundays

Catacombs - A weekly Sunday night student-led time of worship through song and prayer.

There is also a directory of local churches on the website.

Highlights

The A.J. Gordon Memorial Chapel at Gordon College is the most recognizable building on campus. This is not by mistake. We hope it is apparent to everyone who comes in contact with Gordon that we stand for Christ and give praise and honor to him.

Besides being used for the required chapels and convocations, students use the chapel for informal times of prayer and worship. Several student ministry teams meet there regularly to pray and encourage one another in the work they are doing.

Because of its size-1,500 seats-the chapel is also used as an entertainment venue for Gordon's music groups and ensembles and campus sponsored bands, groups and speakers. As musician Ricky Skaggs put it when he was here not long ago, "It's good to be in the house of the Lord. And it's also good to use His house on a Friday instead of just on Sundays and Wednesdays."

There is a Worship Cabinet, with student teams who use their gifts in music, drama and visual arts to contribute to the worship events on campus.

The Elijah Project: Exploring the theological foundations and practical outworkings of God's call on our lives.

There is no greater adventure than finding and filling your role in the Kingdom of God. Yet many of us struggle with finding answers to the questions of what we are to do with our lives and where we fit in. . The Elijah Project offers a unique opportunity to tackle these questions head-on. Students admitted into the Elijah Project will spend 12 months exploring the theological foundations of meaningful work and practical questions about finding and filling one's role in the Kingdom of God. (The Elijah Project is funded in part through a grant from the Lilly Endowment program for the Theological Exploration of Vocation.)

Faith Seeking Understanding Lecture Series:

Distinguished faculty and world experts visit Gordon College each year to discuss important disciplinary, interdisciplinary and social issues impacting our global world. Debra Rienstra, Calvin English Professor, will speak in November 2005 (made possible by a grant from the Lilly Endowment).
