Artist of the Month – February 2004 Janette Roeda |

"My fascination with the written word began even before I knew how to form letters correctly. I remember watching intently as my mother gracefully wrote letters. My interest grew also through contact with my father's printing and advertising business. Since our 5-year term as missionaries in the Caribbean, I have been especially drawn to calligraphy as a form of meditation on God's Word.
I am a self-taught calligrapher. Over the past 20 years I have worked primarily with pen and ink, and in some cases have enhanced the words with handmade paper designs or watercolor backgrounds. I have taught workshops and classes, and work out of my home-based studio where I offer calligraphy services for weddings and other formal occasions. Most recently, I have been interpreting scripture calligraphically for bulletin covers and inserts. I receive the greatest satisfaction from knowing that a piece has encouraged someone in their personal Christian walk."
