Calvin Symposium on Worship, January 28-30, 2010
Presenter Handout Guidelines
We encourage presenters to provide handouts for their sessions. We are glad to make copies here at Calvin and have them available at the session location.
—Send your handouts electronically to worshipsymposium@calvin.edu (if not possible, then mail to
Calvin Institute of Christian Worship
1855 Knollcrest Circle SE
Grand Rapids, MI 49546
—You might also consider including URLs instead of handing out the actual text, especially for copyrighted material.
—Handouts need to received at CICW by January 11, 2010. After this date, we may not be able to process copyright permissions and provide copies.
—At the top of your handout, please include your name, the session number and title.
—We ask that all presenters follow the copyright guidelines outlined on this page.
At CICW we are striving to practice correct copyright procedures in print and on the web.
To help print Symposium handouts efficiently, and to model correct permission practice and offer correct publication information for Symposium attendees, we ask that you read through this brief guide as a prelude to your Symposium preparation.
Also, copyright holders may be presenting at Symposium, so obtaining copyright permissions helps their ministries and enables them to benefit and make a livelihood from their calling. They will be grateful for your assistance.
Since permissions are often predicated on quantities printed, it's most efficient for CICW to process permissions before the conference; we will cover any permission fee. (If you have contact information of the copyright holder, please send that as well.)
PRINT MATERIAL TO BE PHOTOCOPIED
Books, journal or newspaper articles [in print or online]
If you are planning on reprinting any part of a published work, please send the item to us in a Word file or send the link; copyright permission is necessary. Include complete reference and publication information (date, page).
Songs, hymns, hymn texts
If you are planning on reprinting music or hymn texts, please let us know. We also have several licenses that might cover what you would like to print. Include complete copyright information and source (name of hymnal, journal).
Original handouts
If you are creating your own handout material and hold copyright permission for it (or your organization does), please include a permission line and information about reproduceability/how to obtain permission (for attendees' benefit). The notice should be visible and contain the word "copyright" or the symbol © (for printed material), the year of first publication, and the name of the copyright owner.
Visual art, drama, media
If you are planning on reprinting any kind of visual art, drama/skit, PowerPoint presentation etc. that is under copyright, permission is needed.
PROJECTED MATERIAL
If you are going to make a transparency or slide of a copyrighted work (words or images) for use by projector, or include it in a Powerpoint presentation, permission may be needed.
Note: Bibles, Sing! A New Creation, and the Psalter Hymnal are available in both the college chapel and the seminary chapel.
