The Emmaus Road: The Surprise of the Easter Jesus

The Emmaus narrative of Luke 24 is about one of the most remarkable "lightbulb moments" in the Bible. Two disciples begin their journey depressed and confused. But they end up running right back to Jerusalem to announce the news that they had seen the risen Lord. While we don’t have the just-raised human Jesus walking next to us in same way as he was present at Emmaus, Jesus is surely present. Through the Holy Spirit, we have walking with us nothing less than the body of Christ, the church.
