Lent and Easter are not only a time to commemorate the most significant events of the church year;
with Paul's call to be united with Christ in his death and resurrection, and with the early church's historical focus on preparing new Christians for baptism on Easter, this is also a time to deepen our understanding of the mark made on us in baptism. "The primary focus of the season," says the Worship Sourcebook, "is to explore and deepen a 'baptismal spirituality' that centers on our union with Christ rather than to function only as an extended meditation on Christ’s suffering and death."
