Many preachers select a hymn each week that is connected not only to the sermon just preached, but to broader themes of the day or season as well. That approach has sometimes led the church to develop a yearly sequence of hymns tied to the themes of each Sunday and festival of the Christian year. Is such a thing wise? What is its value? Could it be ecumenical?
