Glory

God’s glory is a central dimension of worship. It is, indeed, as the Dictionary of Biblical Imagery says, “one of the master images that helps to tell the story of the Bible." “Glory” is the song the ancient Psalmist overheard in the temple (Psalm 29); it is the song the shepherds sang in Bethlehem. The joy of these songs emerges in stark contrast to Ichabod-moments of judgment when God’s glory departs from the people (1 Sam. 4). In Jesus, we have seen God’s glory (John 1:14), we worship the “King of glory” (Psalm 24:10). And through Jesus, we anticipate nothing less than being “partakers in the glory that is to be revealed” (1 Peter 5:1).
