Tim Brown speaking to attendeesSeminar on Preaching and Culture
April 2004
Calvin Theological Seminary

The goal of this seminar was to encourage pastors in their preaching ministries by reflecting on how to make our preaching as culturally engaging as possible. Effective preaching requires studying not only the biblical text they preach, but also the cultural context into which they preach.
To whom are we preaching?
What worldviews do they listen to our sermons through?
How and when does preaching use the language of culture to communicate the message?
Can preachers be too concerned with cultural discernment?
Can over-concern with context lead the preacher to lose confidence in the text?

Over 150 pastors, community members, and students attended the seminar.
