Emily
Brink |
Emily R. Brink is Senior Research Fellow of the Calvin Institute of Christian
Worship and editor emeritus of Reformed Worship, a quarterly journal published
by Christian Reformed Church Publications. Her areas of responsibility
include conference planning and global resources. She also teaches courses
in music for worship at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary.
She is active in the American Guild of Organists, having served in both
local and national offices, as well as in the Hymn Society in the United
States and Canada, serving as president from 1990-1992; in 2004 she was
named a Fellow of the Hymn Society in recognition of distinguished service
to hymnody and hymnology.
Her areas of interest include congregational song from all times and places;
psalmody; hymnal editing (she was editor of three different hymnals);
and consulting with a wide range of churches on worship renewal issues.
Dr. Brink has a graduate degree in organ and church music from the University
of Michigan and the Ph.D. in music theory from the Northwestern University,
Evanston, Illinois.
Emily is available to speak on the following topics:
Congregational song, especially changes in the last twenty-five years
and ways to introduce variety and balance.
Psalmody: Different ways of singing the psalms, from the Genevan Psalter to new settings by contemporary composers.
The Making of a Hymnal: issues involved in preparing and editing hymnals, including analysis of denominational hymnals of the last twenty-five years.
