Supporting Foundations

Many of the projects and programs of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship are made possible through generous grants from the following supporting foundations:

The Lilly Endowment Inc.
Created in 1937, Lilly Endowment Inc. is a private philanthropic foundation based in Indianapolis, Indiana. It supports the causes of religion, education, and community development, and it is interested in initiatives that benefit youth, foster leadership education among nonprofit institutions, and promote the causes of philanthropy and volunteerism. While the Endowment's grantmaking focuses primarily on projects in Indiana, it also provides funding for programs that are national in scope. The Endowment provides funding in three major program areas: religion, education, and community development. For more, go to www.lillyendowment.org.

The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship is part of a consultation of over 20 websites of religion institutes, programs, and projects related to the initiatives of Lilly Endowment. You can subscribe to a quarterly electronic newsletter about the work and research featured at these websites.

The Henry Luce Foundation, Inc.
The late Henry R. Luce, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Time Inc., established the Henry Luce Foundation in 1936. Today it has assets of about $700 million. Most of the foundation's wealth derived from stock donated by Henry R. Luce and left in his will after his death in 1967. The work of the Luce Foundation reflects the interests of four generations of the Luce family. These include the interdisciplinary exploration of higher education; increased understanding between Asia and the United States; the study of religion and theology; scholarship in American art; opportunities for women in science and engineering; and environmental and public policy programs.
