REC 9

I received the following email last night from Paul Ryan, who had a conversation about worship and authenticity with a pastor from Australia.

This afternoon I learned a new word from my Aussie friend: Fairdinkum.  It means “genuine, not fake; what you see is what you get.”  You could say that it is synonymous with the word authentic, but it is more versatile.  It’s helpful when you want to describe your new worship leader to someone, “Our new worship leader is excellent. The way she stands before the congregation - she’s fairdinkum!”  Or when your pastor comes to you with the news, “The elders have just agreed to purchase a new hymnal for the pews and a grand piano for you to play,” you can reply, “Fairdinkum?”  Or if you are challenging your worship team
to live a life of worship 24/7, you can impress them saying, “What we’re looking for as leaders is to live a life that is fairdinkum before God and our congregation.”

A little contribution to our vocabulary from down under!
