Report from the Hymn Society Conference, San Antonio
Though the humidity may be at 100% it has not put a damper on the Hymn Society Conference in San Antonio, Texas where about 250 hymn and tune writers, musicians, pastors, and publishers have gathered. When you talk to “life-ers”, those who have made this conference a yearly pilgrimage, you find out that there is usually one distinguishing factor for each conference, in Halifax it rained, Winston-Salem was the Moravian Easter sunrise service, the Grand Rapids convention had memorable plenary sessions, etc. If I were to ask any person present this year what this conference will be remembered for, it won’t be the humidity, the heat, or the rain but the concert given last night by the San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble in the San Antonio Cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in the nation.
