Power of Influence

This week we were very excited for our speaker John Britton to arrive.  JB is the assiciate dean for student development at Calvin College.  JB spoke on power of influence vs. the power of position.  Everyone learned a lot about leadership from his talk.  For example one thing we took away was “Leadership is dynamic, and the right to lead must be earned individually with each person you meet.” Along with a great speaker our small groups went very well.  The bible study this week was mainly focused on God as our helper, our keeper, and our gaurdian.  God knowing our plans for us better then we know it ourselves and God having a reason for everything (why we are here at SMR).  The verse we focused on this week was Psalm 121:
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
    where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
    the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.
For our Wednesday activity we headed to Grand Lake.  We started off hiking up to the beautiful Adam’s Falls.  Due to the hiking we needed to cool off so we then headed into town to grab some ice cream and hang out by the lake.  Some photos from this past week:
