Fireworks and Rain
Wow! It is hard to believe that this post marks the half-way point for the LCI program. “Leadership at SMR and Beyound: What’s next for you?” was the topic this week brought to us by the very popular VP of finances for Calvin College Henry Devries. He challenged us to think about where our “sweet spot” is, or the place where we flourish the most/are best at/or where we are most comfortable within a leadership role. All very good things to think about. Psalm 123 was our verse in our Bible studies read like this:
1 I lift up my eyes to you,
to you whose throne is in heaven.
2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the LORD our God,
till he shows us his mercy.
3 Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us,
for we have endured much contempt.
4 We have endured much ridicule from the proud,
much contempt from the arrogant.
MERCY is the key word here…
With Henry Devries on Wednesday we went to Grand lake for the 4th to watch fireworks. It is not a bad deal when you have Grand Lake below the fireworks and mountains in the background of then on top of that you are surronded by great company. Most beautiful 4th I have ever had.
This weekend we had the men’s and women’s retreat. Although both retreats got rained out (so everyone returned to SMR without spending the night away) the time we had before the weather got bad was very enjoyable. The women had fun setting up camp and hanging out and the men had fun with a big Coleman stove eating hotdogs together. There was also a lot of frisbee thorwing! So not ideal but what can you do? We now look forward for the arrival of Bob Eames…

We also had some LCI alumni come to enjoy the fireworks with us such as Elise Voyvadick, Jill De vries, and Annie Reilly
