VROOoooOOOooom

i did my first bit of driving in america today.  since i got my permit a few months ago for identification purposes (i needed it to get a cell phone), i havent really thought about driving too much.  i studied to take the written test to get my permit, and since i’m over 18, i just needed to pass the test.  with my permit, i could drive as long as there was a licensed adult in the car with me.

i havent really bothered to drive, but since my buddies gave my an opportunity today, i drove back from guitar center.  it was a quick 1 mile trip, yet i had my difficulties.  first, people drive on the other side of the road in hong kong, so when i was taking a practice spin around the parking lot, i was in the wrong lane several times.  second, i needed practice parking.  third, i really don’t know how to drive too well.  my only experience was driving around for a few hours in my dad’s car during christmas.  he was teaching me to drive stickshift, and i just went in circles around a parking lot, navigating through parking cones and parking in imaginary spots.  simple stuff.

then it came to today, and i was learning right-of-way rules on the fly.  intense stuff.  plus both nathaniel and jordan were teaching me at the same time.  i mean, when beginners drive, they have a hard time conversing and driving.  i was having a hard time distinguising the brake from the accelerator!  luckily, it really wasn’t that bad and we got back to calvin safe and sound.  perhaps when i return from toronto in the latter half of the summer, i could take some driving lessons in grand rapids!  ooh, a full license for fall semester would be nice… really nice…
