American Pie: The Naked Mile

for the entire summer, i’ve seen this crew filmmaking crew running all over downtown toronto.  first they set up shop outside a nearby house down the block, with lights, cranes, gels on the windows, etc.  i had no clue what was going on, nor whether it was a music video or a full-length movie.  then i see them parked outside a big field in the heart of the university of toronto, setting up a concert stage for a mock concert.  i also see these really old-school cop cars parked next to the field.  i walked by all the trailers where the stars stayed and the portable makeup studios, and my best guess was that a music video was being shot.  a mock concert probably means a music video right?

but this time i see them at a nearby frat house down the street, and i was lucky enough to pass by when they were in the middle of a shoot.  i walked over behind the director’s tent and glanced at the monitors there, and as i was doing that, i noticed the funky chairs that directors sit in.  well, the back of the chair had a logo on it, and the logo clearly stated, American Pie: The Naked Mile.  so guess what, it’s being shot in downtown toronto!  i can only guess what the movie will be about, with frat houses and live concerts.  i guess the guys i saw at the frat house were the stars of the movie, and now that i think of it, one guy looked vaguely familiar.  too bad i’m not a fan of the American Pie series.  i told my buddy Nicole about it, and she told me to try getting in as an extra.  being an asian with dreads, i stick out quite a bit.  i told her i didn’t know if it’s a good idea, because American Pie isn’t exactly a movie i’d want to be in, if you know what i mean.

but anyway, it was still neat seeing a real film crew in action, and seeing them do the things they do.  i learned quite a lot just standing there for 10 minutes, and i’m sure this new knowledge will help me out in future short films.

oh yeah, the shoot that i saw apparently had some guy (the main character i guess) drink some pop from a fast food container while chatting with some friends sitting on the patio of a frat house.  he then opens up the lid, pours some ice into his hand, and sticks it into his pants.  then he kinda wiggles his hand around inside his pants while grimacing and making weird expressions, and then takes his hand back out.  then a girl in her underwear walks through the shot.  i can only wonder what the storyline is.  now you can see why i wouldn’t want to be an extra.  sure it’s funny, but i’m not a fan.
